Lister JP3 First Run in 20 Years

This is the first run of our recently bought Lister Diesel JP3 engine. It sat under a tarp for 20 years before we were lucky enough to find it for sale on ebay. After a long trip home from Gawler, South Australia to Melbourne, Victoria, we set about cleaning out the sludge in the sump. Then after a little TLC around the injector pump an injectors, ensuring oil pressure was ok, it fired up easily, first on 1 cylinder, then the other two joined in. I still plan on a “cosmetic” restoration though, sandblast, painting etc. Then I will pair it up with a 15 Kva 240 volt alternator and set up properly in a purpose made tandem trailer. It goes to show how well made these were. This engine is about 69 years old, and looks to have had a very hard life so far. Now it’s time to give it the care and dressing up it deserves!
